However, advocates for the blind are saying that it’s a danger to others when hybrids aren’t noisy enough. Some groups are pushing for minimum hybrid noise levels to increase safety for the blind.

Some buyers don’t realize it but hybrids are a lot quieter than other cars out there on the road. When the hybrid car was made, the electric and standard motor were both constructed in such a way that the noise level of the car was reduced. Many people like this feature of the hybrid car once they realize that it exists.

Most people wouldn’t think twice about the low noise of the hybrid car as a problem. However, advocates for the blind say that hybrid silence is a really serious problem for those pedestrians who aren’t able to see a car coming towards them. Blind people rely on the sound of car motors to stay safe when navigating the roads and hybrids are causing them some serious problems in this area.
What To Do About Hybrid Silence
The advocates for the blind want minimum noise standards put into place for hybrids so that the hybrid car will be loud enough to hear on the roads. In the meantime, those people who drive a hybrid should be particularly aware that others may not hear them coming and should adapt their driving to be more cautionary as a result.
